Unresponsive inmate found in a cell at Linn County Jail, investigation ongoing
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Staff at Linn County Correctional Center discovered an unresponsive inmate in a cell around 4 a.m. while performing a routine cell-check.
It is believed that the inmate hanged himself.
Staff that found the inmate immediately performed CPR and he was transported to Mercy Medical Center as the area ambulance personnel arrived. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5 a.m.
Officials will not release the identity of the inmate until his family is notified. The exact method of the suspected hanging won’t be released also due to safety and security reasons.
The investigation is underway and an autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner.
