Linn County Solid Waste Agency will mark anniversary of derecho on August 10
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – On Tuesday, August 10, 2021, the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency will hold an Appreciation Day for customers and employees to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the derecho.
The event will take place at the Marion Solid Waste Agency landfill and Resource Recovery facility, which is located at 1954 County Home Road.
From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on August 10, lunch will be served. At the Solid Waste Agency, you can buy a burger, hotdog, brat, chips, cookies, and soda.
Appreciation Day honors residents, businesses, haulers, City and County workers, contractors, and our staff for their tireless efforts not just in the year following the devastating derecho, but also in the years ahead.
The amount of garbage dumped in landfills is still almost double that of a pre-derecho day.
The Solid Waste Agency encourages everyone to take a well-deserved break and enjoy a free lunch as the community looks back on a year of recovery work.
