Sports betting in Iowa surpasses $1.7 billion in only two years
Iowa – On Aug. 15, 2019, two years ago, the first legal sports bet in Iowa was made.
Since then, Iowa has evolved to become the ninth-largest legal sports betting market in the United States, with 12 internet sportsbooks and 18 retail sportsbooks.
Sportsbooks generated the following revenue from August 15, 2019 to July 31, 2021:
- $1.7 billion in wagering
- $122.8 million in net receipts
- $8.3 million in state taxes
It’s now possible to set up an Iowa sportsbook account from anywhere within the state.
