Iowa bans purchase of Russian-made liquor
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – In a statement on Monday, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said that she has told the Iowa Alcoholic Beverage Division to remove any alcoholic liquor products made in Russia from the state’s wholesale purchasing list.
In a tweet, Reynolds said that the new restrictions “further show the state’s support for the brave people of Ukraine as they fight for their freedom against the tyranny of Vladimir Putin.”
The state of Iowa is one of 17 states that has the authority to regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages at the wholesale level. This implies that Iowa’s Alcoholic Beverages Division has the right to select which brands of liquor are allowed for sale to retailers.
