City Council votes to keep scooters on Cedar Rapids streets
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Cedar Rapids City Council has voted to keep scooters on the streets of the city.
At its meeting on Tuesday evening, the council voted to renew a contract with Veoride.
The agreement is now valid until March of 2025.
Many people use them to move about downtown, but you may have heard reports of problems with them in the past, like scooters being abandoned across town or tossed into the Cedar River, or even two children who were struck by a vehicle while riding them last summer.
But officials say this program is good for the city.
“Overall positive… Again, with any program, we are always looking for ways to improve it. We are always getting feedback from the public on any concerns because we don’t want to be complacent, “Community Development Director Jennifer Pratt said.
Besides electric bikes, the Veoride fleet offers standing and sit-down scooters.
You may ride for a fee if you unlock it using the company’s app.
