Last Hope Animal Rescue celebrates 20th anniversary, raises money in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – This weekend, an eastern Iowan animal rescue organization is commemorating 20 years in business.
Since 2004, Last Hope Animal Rescue has been providing services to the eastern part of Iowa. They commemorated with a fundraising event at the Olympic Theater on Saturday.
An announcement about the anniversary in the press Statements on the rescue center and its programming were made on Thursday :
Since 2004 Last Hope Animal Rescue has been saving animals across Eastern Iowa, operating as a 100% volunteer-run non-profit that receives no state or federal funding. In 2015, Last Hope acquired the property at 1823 16th Ave SW in Cedar Rapids to serve as their adoption center. This facility has been instrumental in the growth of the rescue and provided a central location for the hundreds of volunteers dedicated to supporting the rescue. Last Hope averages 400 adoptions per year to local homes throughout the Corridor and is currently providing care for nearly 200 animals awaiting adopters.
The development director of Last Hope Animal Rescue, Amanda Rushton, was interviewed by Iowa’s News Now on Saturday to discuss the fundraising.
“Tremendously, grateful for the help that we had from the community,” said Rushton. “By way of adopting, fostering, supporting our organization. But, this community is also so important to us because that’s where our volunteer base comes from and that’s what makes it so that we’re able to continue doing the work that we do.”
The rescue and its services for caring for dogs and cats will receive all of the funds from this year’s anniversary celebration.
Currently, Last Hope places 400 or so adoptions annually into households throughout eastern Iowa. In addition, they are providing care for close to 200 animals that are up for adoption.
