Cedar Rapids man shot by bondsman while escaping arrest
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – A bail bondsman shot a man being arrested as he attempted to flee, according to CRP, and allegedly struck a bondsman with his car.
Two bail bondsmen attempted to take 40-year-old Richard Hamilton Jr. into custody outside the Dairy Queen at Wilson Ave. and Bowling St. SW around 4:50 p.m. Friday.
Failure to appear warrant were issued for Hamilton in connection to drug charges.
During the attempted arrest, one of the bondsmen shot and wounded Hamilton, while another was struck by Hamilton’s vehicle as he attempted to flee.
Officers located Hamilton in a home in the 2200 block of D St. SW and transported him to a hospital for treatment.
The bondsman who was struck by the automobile was brought to the hospital as well. Both the bondsman and the man who was shot seem to be in stable condition.
The investigation is underway, according to the police.
