Cedar Rapids police identified the 15-year-old shooting victim
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Tyliyah L. Whitis, 15, of Peoria, Illinois, is the girl found by officers with gunshot wounds in a crashed vehicle in the southwest part of Cedar Rapids on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a single-vehicle accident at the Hawthorne Hills Apartment Complex in the 2200 block of C Street Southwest at 6:19 a.m. on Tuesday. They found a car with significant damage and a 15-year-old girl driver with what appeared to be gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat. The car was registered to a member of Whitis’ family.
The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s report on the cause of death is still pending.
The investigation about this incident is ongoing.
