Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Firefighters from Cedar Rapids were able to save two cats from a burning residence in the 300 block of 30th Street SE.

Crews from the city’s fire department rushed to the residence just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to a post on their Facebook page.

When the fire started, the only person who resided there had already managed to get out safely. The fire originated in the basement of the house.

After approximately an hour, firefighters were able to get the blaze under control, but they had to use chainsaws to gain access to the walls since the fire had made its way to the first floor of the house and into the kitchen.

Crews found two cats hidden in a second-floor bedroom as thick smoke filled the whole house, causing a lot of damage.

No injuries were reported, and investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
