Mar. 17: Iowa reports 15 additional COVID-19 deaths, 562 new cases, 570 more recoveries

IOWA — There were 564 new, confirmed cases from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the state’s dashboard, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 343,912.

The state’s website says that of the 343,912 people who have tested positive, 325,939 have recovered. This is 570 more recoveries than what the state reported Tuesday.

The state’s death toll is 5,657, which 15 more than what was reported yesterday.

Subtracting the number of recoveries (325,939) and the number of deaths (5,657) from the total number of cases (343,912) shows there are currently 12,316 active positive cases in the state.

As of Wednesday morning, there were 37 patients hospitalized in Iowa within the last 24 hours and the total number of hospitalizations is 161, a decrease from 162 hospitalized the day before. Of those, 41 are in the ICU (up from 40), and 18 are on ventilators (Same as Tuesday).

In Iowa, there were 2,871 people tested in the last 24 hours, and a total of 1,602,899 people have been tested for COVID-19.

On Tuesday, the state reported a malfunction at the data center that supports Iowa’s vaccine information. On Wednesday morning, the IDPH announced it was restored, but there was a delayed update to the dashboard. The vaccine numbers below are from Wednesday afternoon.

As of Wednesday afternoon, according to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard, 1,096,699 total doses have been administered to Iowa residents and 425,030 individuals have completed the series, which is 11,812 more than Tuesday.

BLACK HAWK COUNTY

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Black Hawk COVID-19 dashboard is showing 7 new cases since 10 a.m. Tuesday, leaving a total of 16,152 cases. There have been 15 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 14,435. There have been no additional deaths, leaving a total of 296 deaths. As of Wednesday in Black Hawk County, 18,668 residents have been fully vaccinated.

LINN COUNTY

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Linn County COVID-19 dashboard is showing 21 new cases since 10 a.m. Tuesday, leaving a total of 19,667 cases. There have been 27 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 18,310 recoveries. There have been no additional deaths, leaving a total of 332 deaths in the county. There are 11 patients currently hospitalized in the county. As of Wednesday in Linn County, 33,176 residents have been fully vaccinated.

JOHNSON COUNTY

According to the state’s dashboard at 10 a.m. Wednesday, there are 16 new positive cases reported in Johnson County since 10 a.m. Tuesday. This brings the total to 13,274 reported cases. There have been a total of 12,787 recoveries, 25 more reported than yesterday. There were no additional deaths, leaving a total of 76. As of Wednesday in Johnson County, 26,391 residents have been fully vaccinated.

DUBUQUE COUNTY

According to the state’s dashboard at 10 a.m. Wednesday, there were 8 additional positive cases reported in Dubuque County since 10 a.m. Tuesday. This brings the total to 12,523 reported cases. There have been 24 additional recoveries reported, leaving a total of 11,986. There has been one additional death reported, leaving a total of 200. As of Wednesday in Dubuque County, 14,753 residents have been fully vaccinated.
