Monticello Theisen’s honors old school
Monticello, Iowa – This month saw the opening of the new Theisen’s in Monticello, which is located on the site of the former Central Middle School.
Built-in 1923, Central Middle School was razed when Theisen’s purchased the land around a year ago. A few items from the now-demolished school are used in the store; the gym floor was used to create the walls for some areas of the building, and some of the bleachers were converted into benches for the shoe area.
For patrons who attended the school, those relics might evoke fond recollections.
Luke Quinlan, the store manager, stated, “They’re happy that we honored it in the way that we did, but they’re sad to see it go.”
Theisen’s has a lengthy history in Monticello; the first facility opened its doors in 1971. The original store, which is only a few blocks away, is four times smaller than this new one. One advantage of being a major company in a small town is that Theisen’s has a unique relationship with the community.
Quinlan stated that if a customer has been a regular customer, “1.) you know them by name 2.) you know what they buy.” “You learn more about your people and you know you can help them.”
According to Luke, the new store is four times larger than the one that is currently closed, which will aid during the hectic holiday season.
“The first weekend was crazy,” Quinlan remarked.
Theisen’s staff is able to work more hours at their new, larger site.
