Current COVID-19 isolation period reduced to five days in Cedar Rapids school district

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Today, September 2nd, a special meeting was scheduled to be held at 4 p.m., in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.

This will be a closed session to discuss strategy with District Legal Counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent, according to the agenda.

Because “its revelation would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental entity in that litigation as specified in Chapter 21.5(1)c of the Code of Iowa,” the meeting will be closed.

Due to the high transmission of the COVID-19 Delta variant in Linn County, the Linn County Board of Health wrote a letter to Linn County school districts encouraging them to consider face-coverings for all students, teachers, and staff while in school facilities, regardless of vaccination status.

The letter to school districts cited Iowa House File 847, p. 15, which says that school officials may wear facial coverings when they are “essential for a specific extracurricular or instructional purpose.”
