Iowa – Unemployment rate on the rise in Iowa.
According to Beth Townsend, an Iowa Workforce Development Director, the unemployment rate in May increased to 3.9% which is 0.1% bigger than in April. It means 1,300 Iowans more went jobless since April.
The unemployment rate in the state was 8.3% one year ago.
The unemployment rate in the U.S decreased to 5.8% in May.
Below follows the Statement from Townsend:
“The positive takeaways from May’s monthly job report are that the number of Iowans in the workforce increased by 6,300; the number of Iowans working increased by 5,000 and claims numbers in May were down significantly from the previous month. While the number of unemployed Iowans ticked up slightly, the overall trend is positive for Iowa as we see more and more Iowans returning to the workforce.”
