Honor Flight returned for the 39th time
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The 39th Honor Flight, which took place on Tuesday, brought together 96 veterans. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tuesday’s trip was the first Honor Flight out of the Eastern Iowa Airport since 2019.
Veterans departed about 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday to travel to Washington, D.C., where they would visit memorials honoring their service to our country.
The crew visited the WWII, Vietnam, and Korean War monuments, as well as Arlington National Cemetery, on their day tour before returning to the Eastern Iowa airport later that evening.
The community welcomed the veterans back with a celebration. Facemasks were required at the airport terminal to anyone attending the event.
The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight has transported over 3,000 veterans since 2009.
