Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Community Connections, a local nonprofit, is ensuring that children are dressed and ready to return to school this year.

At Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids, Community Connections held a Back to School Clothes Drive and Give-Away on Saturday.

The organization was founded by Cindy Petersen and her son, Sean Zirtzman. After noticing people in our neighborhood who are trying to make ends meet, her disabled son came up with the concept for the drive. They said they wanted to help parents with their financial burdens, especially now that school has started.

“We believe by helping others in our community, it not only helps us and them, but also it builds a better community,” said Petersen.

“If it wasn’t for the community, we wouldn’t have this event,” said Zirtzman.

All the clothes were donated from the community. Any clothes left over will be given to area shelters.
