Student Resource Officer Program update listed on board of education meeting agenda
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – On Monday, the Cedar Rapids Community School District and the Cedar Rapids Police Department will provide an update on the district’s Student Resource Officer Program.
The city council accepted an amendment in October.
Since then, a number of modifications have been implemented. De-escalation, nonviolent crisis intervention, and intercultural development inventory are among the topics covered.
In October, Deputy Superintendent Nicole Kooiker wrote a letter explaining the modifications that would be made.
“The strategies taught in this training provide staff with an effective framework for decision making and problem solving to prevent, de-escalate, and safely respond to disruptive or assaultive behavior,” said Kooiker.
The agenda for tonight’s board of education meeting includes an update on this program.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
